How a JFK group pickup works

JFK is in southeast Queens; the road distance to Midtown depends on your address and route. Once you're through customs or baggage claim, follow the confirmed name-sign meeting instructions and board at the authorized car-service pickup area. A shuttle or AirTrain transfer may be required. The luggage rides in the same van as the passengers.

Domestic arrivals include 30 minutes of waiting after landing, and international arrivals include 60, since customs lines at the international terminals can run long in the late afternoon. After the free window, each 15 minutes is billed at the hourly rate.

Which JFK terminal to put on the booking

JFK is a set of separate terminals connected by a loop road and the AirTrain, and each has its own arrivals hall. Airlines move between terminals, so check your airline's current confirmation instead of going by memory. If the terminal changes on the day, message dispatch.

• Midtown and Hudson Yards: the Van Wyck to the LIE and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, 45 to 75 minutes.
• Lower Manhattan: the Van Wyck, LIE and BQE to the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel.
• Brooklyn: the Van Wyck, LIE and BQE, with travel time depending on the neighborhood and traffic.
• Long Island: the Van Wyck to the LIE eastbound.
• Westchester: the Van Wyck and Whitestone Expressway (I-678) to the Whitestone Bridge, then expressway connections to I-95 or I-87 for the destination.

For departures, the van is timed backward from your flight. The slowest stretch is the Van Wyck approaching the airport, and it clogs on Friday afternoons and holiday weekends. International groups with checked bags should allow extra time at the airline counter.
